Where can I get a navigation system for a 2001 C320 Mercedes Benz? It is fiber optic can I put in aftermarket?
I was wold I cant put in an after market stereo in my car. Why is this? I was told it has fiber optic cables.. What can I do to fix this or where can I turn to get an after market stereo dvd/navigation system put in?
The signal wires (audio) from the head unit to the amplifier in the rear of the vehicle are fiber optic. What this means, is an add-on system won’t feed audio through your speakers.
You have two options:
Install a separate speaker for the nav system and keep your stereo volume low while using it – or – replace your head unit and amplifier.
The reason (if it matters to you at all):
Normally, an add-on nav system will either override input from the head unit and play through the factory speakers (rare) or (more common) trigger the mute wire on the factory head unit. With a fiber optic system, signals are digital (as opposed to the analog signals in an aftermarket system), and you can’t interface.
Find a high-end shop. Car stereo installers are like any other tradesmen, they get much better with experience. The shops that will have the most experience with Mercedes will be high-end shops.
